Splash! Inventions in water | Evening workshops
MAF - Museo Archeologico Civico " Tobia Aldini"
Five summer evenings to play with engineering and water!
With challenges inspired by the ancient world, creative constructions and recycled materials, children will discover how the great inventions of the past worked... experimenting, building and having fun in the cool of summer evenings!
The mini-course is designed for girls and boys aged 6 to 12, without parents.
Programme:
Thursday 4 June | Sailing with the wind
Let's find out how boats were made in ancient times, and then try building a boat of our own with the materials at our disposal! Will it be able to float? And sail with the wind?
Thursday 18 June | The screw of Archimedes
A genius man and his invention, which still works great today: let's discover together how the hydraulic screw works and how it is built, and see who can move the most water from one bowl to another!
Thursday 9 July | The Roman aqueduct
The ancient Romans loved to bathe and relax, but to do so they needed a lot of water! Where did it come from and how did they get it over mountains and hills, all the way to the city? Let's find out together and put our aqueducts to the test!
Thursday 23 July | The drawbridge
Fundamental in every castle, when the enemy approached it was the easiest and quickest way to be safe: let's build a drawbridge and see which was the quickest to get up!
Thursday 6 August | Leonardo da Vinci's bridge
The Romans were masters of bridge building, but Leonardo da Vinci gave us a method so fast and safe that even the Romans, if they knew, would have adopted it! Let's learn how to reproduce it with recycled materials and see how much weight it can support!
